Sigatoka Town Council

Population: 8940

Sigatoka is a vibrant town located on Fiji’s main island, Viti Levu’s Coral Coast. Also known as Fiji’s “Salad Bowl”, the highly fertile Sigatoka Valley supplies a large percentage of locally grown food in Fiji. Yet, its agricultural productivity and local food security are increasingly jeopardised by shifting weather patterns, flooding and degraded soil health as a result of climate change. The council focuses on reducing the negative impact of flooding by upgrading earth drains to concrete ones. Through active membership in ICLEI Oceania, they aim to improve environmental management and service delivery systems while strengthening urban planning and climate resilience capacities.
