The City of Adelaide is located within Greater Adelaide, the capital of South Australia. While it has a relatively small resident population of around 29,118 (2024 data), it is the state’s urbane capital, home to leading universities, hospitals, and cultural institutions. The Council delivers community-focused initiatives in environmental management and sustainability. Its vision is to become “a sustainable city where climate resilience is embedded in all that we do.” To achieve this, Adelaide is working to build a circular economy through improved resource recovery, free energy and waste assessments for small businesses and not-for-profits, and programs that help the community reduce emissions. The Council’s Integrated Climate Strategy sets out clear goals for a resilient and sustainable future, realised through close collaboration with its community.
