Invitation to Contribute to the Australian Local Government Climate Review 2021

In 2018, ICLEI Oceania, Beyond Zero Emissions (BZE) and Ironbark Sustainability teamed up to launch the Australian Local Government Climate Review. The report was the end result of the most comprehensive local government and climate change survey in Australian history.

The report made its way around the world, launched at the international ICLEI Resilient Cities Conference in Bonn, Germany, where Australian council, state and community climate action was highlighted on the world stage. The report has since been used to inform policies, state parliamentary inquiries and decision makers throughout Australia.

Invitation to participate in the 2021 survey

We are now inviting local governments to participate in the 2021 Australian Local Government Climate Review survey.

This time, the survey has been developed with input from ICLEI Oceania, Ironbark, BZE, Cities Power Partnerships (CPP), Climate Emergency Australia, Climateworks and a range of Local Government Associations and councils.

By speaking with a broad range of relevant stakeholders in local government associations, state governments and other city networks, we’ve gained a critical understanding of the questions they’d like answered. We’ve gathered all the questions into one questionnaire which will help inform local government climate policy over coming years.

Your chance to win an iPad, or be one of the first 20 responses and get a free ‘Carbon Budget Report’ for your council

Depending on whether you answer all the questions or pass on those that aren’t relevant, the survey will take 30-40min.

We understand this is a decent outlay of your time but your contribution will be used to assist and inform the sector - creating more robust data to back up advocacy for resources and funds; compelling analysis and conclusions that can be used to support internal budget bids and benchmarking with other councils in your region, state of the country that can be used to promote action in your council or community.

To thank you for your contribution, you will be entered into a draw to win a brand new iPad Mini worth $599. Plus, the first 20 people to respond to the survey will receive a Carbon Budget and Science-Derived Target report for their council area. This 5-page report outlines your council’s carbon budget and target based on science from the IPCC and Climate Change Authority in Australia.
