Ministers from 24 countries meet to plan 10-year energy transition
Today, ministers of 24 countries (including Australia) will meet at the Fifth Mission Innovation’s annual Ministerial meeting (MI-5). The primary agenda for this year’s Ministerial is to adopt the new approach for Phase 2 of Mission Innovation. There is a hope that the next phase will include a focus on how cities can help drive the clean energy transition.
Mission Innovation (MI) is a global initiative of 24 countries and the European Commission (on behalf of the European Union) working to reinvigorate and accelerate global clean energy innovation with the objective to make clean energy widely affordable.
Lord Mayor of Hobart, Anna Reynolds will provide remarks behalf of Mayors and cities as the Oceania spokesperson of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM), a Mission Innovation partner. Lord Mayor Reynolds is expected to emphasise the importance of continued collaboration with local government to realise the next phase of Mission Innovation and a clean energy transition.
A key advocate for city collaboration on climate, energy and environment, Lord Mayor Reynolds is also a member of ICLEI Oceania’s Regional Executive and of the recently established GCoM Oceania Steering Committee.
Ministers will take part in a live debate on the progress of global clean energy innovation activities hosted by HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud. Citizens and media from across the globe are invited to join the live-streamed event.
