Electric vehicle charging stations are now spread throughout Christchurch city.

Christchurch has been crowned New Zealand’s most EV-friendly town at the EVworld NZ Champions Award gala in Auckland this month (Christchurch City Council news). The city was recognised for its investment in electric vehicle infrastructure, including charging stations, electric buses, electric car sharing and electric motorbikes for park rangers.

“The Council, which has recently declared a climate change and ecological emergency, is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from its activities to working with the Christchurch community to reduce the city’s emissions,” says Christchurch City Council Resource Efficiency Manager Kevin Crutchley.

Christchurch has targeted on-road transport which accounts for around 40 percent of Council emissions in a strategic effort to bring emissions down. Christchurch City Council is also a signatory to the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy which provides an international standard for councils to measure and report climate action.
