Six pioneering cities in Australia, Fiji and the Solomon Islands have joined a global network of cities supporting the growth of nature in and around cities: City of Melbourne, City of Yarra, Moreland City Council, City of Port Phillip, Honiara City Council and Nadi Town Council.

CitiesWithNature is a shared platform for cities to engage and connect. The platform recognises all cities large and small depend on healthy ecosystems and that nature-based solutions in cities can offer a range of health benefits for people, ecosystems and the built environment.

But most councils already invest in aspects of nature in cities, so why join CitiesWithNature?
“As we increasingly feel the impacts of climate change, nature in our urban landscapes will become more important than ever,” said Councillor Danae Bosler, Mayor of the City of Yarra.

Councillor Bosler said the City of Yarra was “committed to protecting and increasing vegetation and open space in the municipality to improve the wellbeing of our population, enhance biodiversity and mitigate the impacts of the urban heat island effect”.
