30 cities certified as champions of climate action
Over thirty cities across Oceania have been awarded badges to certify their climate mitigation and adaptation plans and progress by the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy Oceania.
Congratulations to Auckland Council, Blacktown City Council, City of Adelaide, Hobsons Bay City Council, City of Melbourne, City of Sydney, City of Yarra, Tweed Shire Council, Wellington City Council, Wollongong City Council, and Wyndham City council who have achieved full compliance in 2021. These eleven climate action leaders are certified as Compliant, the Compliant badge is awarded to cities who meet all of the minimum Common Reporting Framework (CRF) requirements across all active pillars of Mitigation and Adaptation.
The twenty other local governments are on their way toward full compliance and have received badges for either Mitigation or Adaptation planning and progress.
These cities and local governments are genuine leaders in climate action. They have undergone comprehensive planning and reporting using the CRF to ensure robust assessment and target setting. By contributing to this reporting system and advancing their progress on climate action, local governments around the world shape the future of their communities and improve policy decision making to further combat the impacts of climate change.
The Global Covenant of Mayors is a global alliance of cities and local governments that supports an action-oriented approach to climate change for the transition to low-emission and resilient societies.
Congratulations to these local governments for their climate leadership. To find out how you can become a champion of climate action visit the GCoM Oceania Website or email helpdesk.oceania@iclei.org
